The standardized Type 2 ev socket inlet is designed for single- and three-phase AC charging. It is used for charging electric vehicles, mainly within Europe. It is also used in some countries outside of Europe, including Australia, New Zealand and India.
The connector is circular in shape and is designed to work with a Type 2 female plug. A lock can be added upon request. When inserted into the vehicle inlet, the female plug is held in place by the locking mechanism. The same concept is used by the socket-outlet in EVSEs to hold the plug in place.
